25 THINGS I'VE LEARNED IN 25 YEARS

June 12, 2017

  1. Be confident. No matter what is going on in your life, hold your head up high. Walk confidently and fake it til you make it. There is nothing more attractive than a person who knows who they are and what they want.

  2. Stay true to yourself. A few years back, I got "Follow Your Heart" tattooed on my forearm. Don't change yourself for anyone. Some people will only love you if you fit inside their box. Don't be afraid to disappoint.

  3. Remove the negativity from your life. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there with energy that is unsupportive of who I want to be in the world. How can we move forward and go up in life if we are surrounded by energy that brings us down? We can't. Do a clean sweep of all those toxic vibes and make room for the good ones.

  4. If someone doesn't want you, let them go. Whether it be a romantic relationship or a friendship, let them go. Why should you want someone who doesn't want you? Hell no. Walk away.

  5. Be kind to everyone. Everyone around you is going through something you know nothing about. A simple smile can change a day completely. Plus, karma is real. Don't mess with that ish.

  6. Work hard. Take the overtime. Push yourself during your workout. It all ends up worth it.

  7. Set goals. Having a goal and reaching it is one of the most rewarding feelings.

  8. Give back. Help those less fortunate. Even just doing something out of the kindness of your heart, expecting nothing in return is so good for your soul. What goes around comes around.

  9. Listen to your intuition. When you get that gut feeling that something isn't right, don't ignore it.

  10. Take risks. Take the road less traveled. And don't be afraid. What do you have to lose?

  11. Don't make excuses for people. For example, if a guy is texting you every day, but never wants to hang out, you're not actually important to him. Move on.

  12. Let them hate. There will be people in this world who dislike you for no reason. Trying to change their mind is a waste of your time.

  13. Tell the truth. If you're always honest, you have nothing to worry about.

  14. Overuse "I love you." We need to hear it and it has to be said. We aren't promised a tomorrow.

  15. God is always present. Whether times are good, or bad. Know that you will experience both highs and lows in this lifetime. God is always faithful no matter what emotion you're feeling.

  16. Be passionate. A passionate person is an interesting one. I would so much rather spend time with a person with tons of opinions, (even if I disagree with them) then spend it with someone with no opinions on anything. I love learning about people. What makes them tick, and what doesn't.

  17. It's okay if you don't go to the party. Staying in and watching a movie is always a good idea.

  18. Self care is so important. Make your emotional and mental health a priority. If you are struggling, get help. Reach out. And don't be ashamed. This is normal. It's healthy to acknowledge the feelings you're feeling. But don't let yourself become the emotion completely.

  19. Don't be so quick to judge.

  20. The best things happen when you least expect it. Serendipity, it's a real thing.

  21. Laugh at yourself. Don't take life too seriously and stop worrying about what people think of you. It's absolutely exhausting. And really, who cares? Just be you.

  22. Comparison is the thief joy. Don't compare yourself or your life to others. Just keep pushing, keep working hard with the faith that God's plan for you is different from theirs.

  23. Don't try to change someone. Either like their qualities or find someone whose qualities you like as-is.

  24. Learn to love yourself before getting into a relationship. Don't be in a relationship for reassurance of how pretty you are. You will never believe it. Get yourself to the point where you know who you are, and you're confident in what you stand for. You don't need anyone to tell you how wonderful you are. You already know.

  25. Failure makes you stronger. Experiencing rough times, makes you who you are today. Embrace the challenge.

I’ve been here 25 years and here are two of the things I’m most passionate about — sharing what I’ve learned and then learning more stuff to share. So I hope that this blesses you in some way.

Stay lovely.
