SUMMER TUNIC + THE TRAIN

July 2, 2016

This look is so me. The pops of color complete it and really make it appropriate for a casual day or a night out with the girls.

Sometimes, when I go out in the city, I like to take the train. And sometimes, I just like to go for the ride. With no destination in mind, no plans, just a ride.

When I was a kid, my Great-Grandmom lived a block from the train station. My little sister and I would spend lots of time at Gram's house during the week and she would always take a walk with us to the train station, where we would sit on a bench and watch the train pass. People would get on. People would get off. The conductor would wave. My 5 year old self, and my 3 and a half year old sister at the time, would get so excited to see it coming. Gram always knew the train times and when it would be arriving at our hometown station, so she made sure we got over there in time to see it coming from afar. The tracks on both sides, was a straight line for as far as we could see. So, when we saw that little speckle of light from miles away, we would jump for joy, while trying not to get too crazy and staying behind the yellow line! ;)

(These pictures were taken at the exact station we would visit!)

We did that for years. Gram would tell us that one day we would take a ride together and go on a little trip.

She passed away before we ever got to do that together.

It wasn't until I was 20 years old that I took the train for the very first time. I took a trip to New York City, and planned it weeks in advance. I don't think there ever was a soul so excited to get on a public train. As I walked on and sat down, all I could think of was my 5'1, little Gram and her sweet little smile.

There have been times in my life when I have felt a little blue, and drove to the train station. Just to sit and watch. Like I did with Gram. I would instantly feel better. There have been times when I picked myself up some lunch, and took it over to that bench. Sat. And watched. Every now and then, if I'm feeling a bit adventurous, I'll hop on the train, take it to the city, grab a cup of coffee and get right back on and head home. A feeling of nostalgia takes over my soul and I know she's riding with me.

We all miss her dearly, but years ago, days before she passed, she told us that Grandpop was waiting for her to dance with him. So, she had to go.

Dancing angels.

I love you.
