The stairway to the ocean has my heart. My whole heart.
This place is pure bliss. Everything about it makes my heart happy and brings my soul to another place. The ocean has always done that for me. The beach has always done for me. I have always been captivated by the Atlantic. As much as I remember growing up and wishing I could leave this state, I really love it dearly and I feel blessed to call the east coast my home.
Kennedy Park. On the bay. Leading straight to the ocean.
My mom grew up at the beach. She, along with her 4 siblings grew up just around the corner from this park. After they all grew up, moved out, and started their own families, my grandparents continued to live in that great big home that they raised 5 children. I would spend weekends there with my sister, cousins, and friends, while we baked cookies and watched movies with our darling Grammy who loved our company.
This park was a morning go-to. Above the rocks, that you can see to my left in the pictures, is a big hill that overlooks the bay. There are picnic tables up there, great big trees, and you're always guaranteed to catch the ocean breeze. We would stop at the bagel shop, grab breakfast, and take a ride over. We would sit at one of the picnic tables up on that hill, enjoy the view, enjoy our meal, greet the day, and maybe feed a seagull. Kids love feeding seagulls. Weirdos.
These stairs have been here for as long as I can remember. I know that over the years, they have been rebuilt. It must be a local love, because they never take them down, but always enhance the beauty of them as the years go on. The very last step, leads to the water. My favorite. As kids, if we were lucky enough to remember our flip-flops, we could walk all the way to the bottom of the stairs, and let the little waves kiss our toes, as the sun was still very low in the sky, just making her morning appearance. Kids also like to wake up real early. Weirdos again.
We have celebrated several birthdays here throughout the years. We've had family gatherings under the pavilion in the park's field. We've had barbecues on the grills. There's even a drop off area, to the right of the stairs, where you can put your boats, jet-skis, etc. in the water and go play. My aunt and uncle who now live in the house that my grandparents used to own, have jet skis and ocean kayaks. So, needless to say, we have a blast out here on the water on those 85-90 degree days.
This place holds so many memories. So, naturally, my heart feels happy when I'm here. I always enjoy a walk down the stairway to the ocean, and I love sharing this spot with special people in my life.
This weekend, my sweetheart got to experience the view with me. Sure enough, he loved it too. I expected nothing less. It's easy to love.
We had a solid 4 days where the temperature was sunny and 75. Perfect for a trip to good ol' Kennedy.
So, hey, I bet you were wondering about this all white everything outfit! I am absolutely loving anything and everything off the shoulder this season! Here is one of my favorite tops! I'm also wearing distressed white jeans that I loooove! And, the floppy sun hat, of course. I'm loving hats these days. They just add a little spunky finish to an outfit. I dig 'em.
